The Single Window Entrance for MD, MS & DNB in India

The National Eligibility cum Entrance Test for Postgraduate (NEET-PG) is the eligibility-cum-ranking examination prescribed as the single entrance examination for admission to various MD/MS and PG Diploma Courses. It is conducted annually by the National Board of Examinations (NBEMS) and is the gateway to over 26,000 MD and 13,000 MS seats across Government, Private, and Deemed Universities.

Eligibility Criteria

Educational: MBBS degree or Provisional MBBS Pass Certificate recognized by the NMC/MCI.

Internship: Completion of one-year compulsory rotating internship on or before the cut-off date (usually mid-year, e.g., August 31st).

Registration: Permanent or provisional registration with the NMC or State Medical Council is mandatory.

Exam Pattern (CBT Mode)

The exam covers the entire MBBS curriculum comprising 19 subjects, tested in a single day.

NEET PG scores are valid for admission to a wide range of postgraduate courses across India:

MD (Doctor of Medicine)

Clinical & Non-clinical specialties (e.g., Medicine, Patho, Radio).

MS (Master of Surgery)

Surgical specialties (e.g., General Surgery, Orthopaedics, ENT).

DNB (Diplomate of National Board)

Equivalent to MD/MS, offered in top private & govt hospitals.

PG Diploma

2-year specialized courses in various clinical disciplines.

With 19 subjects to cover, a strategic approach is essential for NEET PG success:

TIP 1 Focus on Clinical Vignettes: The exam has shifted heavily towards long, clinical scenario-based questions. Practice integrating Anatomy/Physio with Clinical subjects.

TIP 2 High-Yield Subjects: Medicine, Surgery, OBG, and PSM carry the maximum weightage. Don't ignore short subjects like Dermatology and Psychiatry which are scoring.

TIP 3 Grand Tests (GTs): Simulate the 3.5-hour exam regularly. Time management is crucial as you cannot switch between time-bound sections once submitted.
